Percy the pony is the latest recruit at the Riding for the Disabled Association. He has already made a star debut at the association's Cheltenham Racecourse base, where he will bring joy to the lives of many people.
The Riding for the Disabled Association based at the Cheltenham Racecourse now thanks to Cheltenham Round Table has a new pony and ride to take out disabled children and adults. The donation of over £3,000 pounds is part of the money raised by events like the 'Cheltenham Fireworks Extravaganza' supported and attended by the public.
The pony 'Percy' is a lovely 11 year old black fell that the charity has been seeking for over 3 years. Pony's that are specially selected for the right temperament and can give rides as well as pull a cart are very scarce in the UK. An incredibly valueble asset to the local disabled community he is regularly under specialist training and recently completed training over the festive period taking Father Christmas around the local area.
There is a unique empathy between disabled children and the pony and some that are too shy talk to adults find themselves talking to the pony freely. All ages from 3 yrs through to pensioners that are disabled benefit from the exercise to muscles that otherwise would occur during walking. The elevated position over the pony, people around the riders and open views across the immediate countryside raises confidence and gives a lift to the day.
